The Vocational Training Centre is a institution for skill development of youth and young adults from underprivileged families located in Mudipu.
The center was opened on 16.09.2020 with the aim of creating opportunities and prospects for the future for young people from marginalized backgrounds. The focus is to provide job oriented, skill based and demand driven vocational education and skill training for unemployed boys and girls.
Through this the goal is to create long term, sustainable income and furthermore, benefits for the marginalized households in Bantwal, Ullal and Mangalore Taluks .
The 2 floor building was sponsored by BMZ/KKS Germany and contains 4 theory classrooms as well as two practical laboratories.
The offered courses are “Sewing and Fashion designing”, “Computer and Tally” and “Computer and DTP” which take 4 month and cost 3.000-5.000 rupees (2023). Moreover, 15 day courses in solar technic, driving and plumbing are available. Until 2023 in total 799 students were trained in the VTC.
The majority of them is now gainfully employed (52%), many others are self employed (24%).
“All in all it is a life education school”
It is important to enhance that the VTC is not only a technical training center. The students also learn life skills, spoken English, event management, to organize programs, public speaking and interview skills. Overall, increasing self development and gaining self-confidence is a focus of the center. It is an all-round development and lifelong education for those in need in rural areas.
