Legal Literacy Camp

PRAJNA shows perspectives for women in remote villages

Many families in remote areas are landless and depend on low-income jobs like agricultural labour and beedi rolling. The education in rural areas is very low and a number of villagers are illiterates. Most of them are un-aware of social, economical, political and health issues.

Sponsored by Karnataka State Social Welfare Board, PRAJNA has held the legal literacy camp for economically poor women in rural areas around Mangalore. The objective of this programme is the introduction of NGO work and governmental programmes as well as the increase of knowledge about different schemes and perspectives. The awareness buildingĀ of women in remote villages and the improving of living standard are the main aims.Women should learn to solve their problems individually and find solutions for local issues through awareness building.

Women get informed about justice processes and the understanding of law as well as economical cases. As the empowerment of women is a focused aim of our Centre, during the legal literacy camp we give information about the opportunities of the projects we offer.

In 2011 PRAJNA has successfully organized an eight days legal literacy camp for 38 participants in Yedurupadavu.
